5G does not cause COVID-19

Since the novel coronavirus and corresponding disease it causes, Covid-19, was first discovered, people have tried to figure out where exactly it came from. Many scientists believe this particular coronavirus, SARS-CoV-2, was originally transmitted to humans via bats in the Chinese province of Wuhan. From there it spread quickly due to the highly dense population of China.

However, many people believe that version of the story is simply not true. They argue that there is evidence that the real cause of Covid-19 is from the radiation caused by 5G cellular towers in a secret plot by world governments to institute population control and usher in a new world order.

Is it really possible? Could we simply be pawns in a much greater ploy to control the world? Are the so-called “conspiracy theories” really true?

I’ll let actor and director Danny DeVito answer this:

Folks, stop with the conspiracies. Stop clicking articles that don’t come from reputable news sources. Stop believing your random friends on social media who don’t have any kind of scientific degree. You don’t need to “stay woke”, you need to stop drinking the kool-aid instead.

There was a video on YouTube that has since been taken down of Dr. Thomas Cowan talking about the “electrification” of the Earth is linked to pandemics. That radiation from radio frequency (RF) networks somehow proliferate the spread of a pandemic. Consequently this led to people equating the spread of 5G cellular networks to the spread of Covid-19. I will point you to this Slate article that outlines the timeline of this particular conspiracy theory (and debunks Cowan’s thesis).

According to the BBC, the theories seem to originate sometime in late January in the United States. The theory seems to fall into two camps: Those believe 5G can suppress the immune system and those who believe that the virus itself can be transmitted through 5G technology.

Let’s just get this out of the way now. There is no legitimate way that a biological pathogen can spread using RF signals. Additionally, the frequencies that 5G operate at are totally safe for humans. Since this is primarily a tech blog, let’s start there.

The Facts

To put it broadly, “5G” is the fifth generation of wireless cellular technology that enables greater speed and bandwidth to support many more devices connected at once. The frequency bands that cellular devices operate at are much lower on the scale.

In fact, many carriers are deploying 5G on so-called “low-band” and “mid-band” frequencies which are basically the same frequencies that 4G and 3G operate on. This is to ensure that the radio waves are able to travel further. Low band frequencies are typically between 450 – 700 MHz. Mid band is around 2-5 GHz (Wi-Fi also operates in mid-band).

Then there’s “millimeter wave” (mmWave) 5G which uses much higher frequencies to ensure speed but doesn’t travel very far. In fact, you can technically block it with your body. MmWave frequencies typically operate between 30 to 300 GHz. That sounds high but it’s not nearly as high as what’s needed to negatively affect the human body.

Graphic shows 5G's frequencies on the electromagnetic spectrum - within the non-ionising band at the lower end of the scale.

As you can see from the chart above, 5G signals are way below what’s needed to harm you. The real harm when it comes to the electromagnetic spectrum is “ionizing radiation”. These are destructive because they can break chemical bonds in your cells. That’s why you have to wear a special vest when you get X-rays or why you need to wear sunscreen to avoid harmful ultra-violet exposure from the Sun (yes, even black folks need sunscreen).

Viruses by definition, cannot survive without a host. In fact, they’re technically not “alive”. Viruses are basically pieces of RNA or DNA wrapped in a protein shell. Because viruses don’t contain traditional cell organelles, they can’t reproduce on their own. They require a host cell to make copies for them.

In order to continue making copies of itself, viruses need a means of transmission. In the case of SARS-CoV-2 (the virus that causes Covid-19), it is transmitted via airborne droplet from the sneeze or cough of an infected person. This isn’t psuedo-science. This isn’t a hypothesis or a guess. This is literally provable and well-known about how pathogens work.

It is physically impossible for a biological organism to travel via the electromagnetic spectrum. For starters, radio waves don’t have mass and can’t impart force as we would traditionally think of it. It’s not like a virus can ride the energy waves of a cell tower like a surfer. That’s not how physics works.

Going back to the issue of whether or not 5G signals can suppress the immune system, that is also unproven. There have been numerous studies over 30 years that have shown RF, a type of non-ionizing radiation, does not have any harmful effects on humans. Here are facts from the FDA, National Institute of Health, and the National Cancer Institute.

That said, a 2018 study done by the NIH on the effects of cellular RF exposure on animals found that they showed a higher risk for DNA or tissue damage and lower body weight. However, those studies were done on rats and mice and cannot be extrapolated to humans. The amount of radiation that the rats were exposed to were much higher than a normal cellphone.

To wrap this up, 5G does NOT cause viruses to spread nor has it been shown that cellular RF signals have any deleterious effect on human beings. Should we continue to monitor the risks associated with RF? Absolutely, but let’s not spread wild conspiracy theories that have no basis in fact or reason.

There’s also some conspiracy about how Bill Gates is somehow involved in this in order to institute population control by world governments but my head already hurts just from this topic alone.

    Thanks for the info!

So, I see you have thrown the baby out with the bathwater.
Although there is No conclusive links to 5G and the virus, the crisis has allowed lawmakers and corporations to push past existing worldwide resistance. There are many studies as to the harmfulness of RF, in fact cellphone manufacturers are at least, required to warn consumers of exposed radiation risk. I have read in a study that, it is flawed to assume that just because RF is not heating up a body, that there is no danger or harmful effects. 5G as a system is a combination of 3, 4, 5, and wherever new equipment can go. There are really as of yet No bounds to what will be attempted, especially is the only breaking point is the non ionizing spectrum. So if they are unable to articulate anything else the Crisis, IS related to 5G, in that privacy, financial, and personal rights are being taken by legislation, while simultaneously installing largely untested invasive technology. The fact that the blanketing of the earth with millimeter wave satellites is Not getting much press should alarm us.
